In order to prolong the life of your self-tan application, there are a few steps that we would advise you to take before and after tan application:
STEP 1 - SKIN PREPARATION

Exfoliating your skin properly is one of the most important steps you should take prior to applying your tanning mousse or spray.
Unlike snakes, who shed their skin as one full piece, we shed our skin as individual cells and this causes an uneven skin surface. By using a good quality exfoliation product, like our
Star Luxury Skin Cleansing Mousse and
Exfoliation Mitt, you will be able to remove all the dead skin cells that would otherwise become loose and fall off over the coming days.

These cells falling off prematurely, due to lack of exfoliation, will cause lighter areas to develop on the surface of the skin as the (now-tanned) dead skin cells fall off. The better the skin exfoliation, the longer lasting and deeper into your skin epidermis your tan will penetrate.
Shave excess body hair 24 hours before you are planning to apply your fresh tan. If waxing, do this at least 48 hours beforehand and make sure you clean the waxed areas thoroughly to remove any wax residue that would potentially create a barrier on your skin and prevent your tan from developing evenly.
We advise waiting at least 4 hours after showering as this will give your skin time to relax and your pores time to reduce in size, preventing any product from entering and clogging them up, which would create a dotting effect on the skin.
Remove any perfume or deodorant residue before a self-tan application, as the chemicals found in most brands will react with the DHA in the tanning products and this turns your skin lovely shade of Hulk Green!

One coat of Tanning Mousse or Spray-Tan Solution is enough to give you a perfect, natural-looking, long-lasting colour. For deeper results, when using your Tanning Mousse, you can apply a 2nd coat.

For Professionals Only: There is no need for a 2nd coat when using our Pro Spray-Tan Solutions as we teach our Star Sprayers how to use a maximum of 50ml per adult body, more than enough to achieve the flawless results we promise. Applying more than 50ml of product will overload the skin with excess product and lose you some hard-earned profit at the same time. We advise our products will last at least 9 days, with some of our customers' tans lasting even longer!

STEP 3 - PROLONG THE RESULTS
Your tan will be fully developed after 8 hours. To remove the product residue, wash your body thoroughly, using your hands and a soap or shower gel that has no fruit oils added to the ingredients, as these can cause your tan to fade much faster.
Do not use any Dove products as these have been proven to leave a film on the skin, which prevents the DHA from penetrating the skin evenly.
Do not use anything abrasive ie facecloth, sponge, body scrub, as this could exfoliate the skin further and lift the top layer of product from your skin.
Do not use water only as this can leave water run marks as the product is not being washed off correctly and evenly.
Pat yourself dry with a towel rather than rubbing your skin, to avoid further exfoliation, and apply a natural, cruelty-free moisturiser on a daily basis to ensure your results last for as long as possible. We estimate your tan to last at least 7-9 days when you maintain your skin properly.
When it's time to exfoliate your skin again and apply a fresh coat of product, simply go back to Step 1, and start the process again.
